Description: The Quality Assurance - Quality Control Microbiology Technician is involved in a variety of laboratory and manufacturing activities within the microbiological, chemical, and/or analytical areas by carrying out collecting and testing samples, measuring, recording results, and analyzing microbiological data as part of a lab serving the manufacturing process. This essential role participates in short- and long-term projects and assist in the decision-making process for fermentation, process improvement, and release of products.

This position performs fermentation/microbiological quality assurance and control activities to support manufacturing and sustaining of existing products and provide critical information/support to appropriate teams in the process. They will implement proven microbiological quality methodologies to meet company requirements and ensure the integrity of product through proven best practices.

Fundamental Components:

  • Prepare various microbiological media for growing cultures and testing raw and in-process materials.
  • Prepare micro lab samples for testing.
  • Quality control by industrial sampling of raw material, process intermediates and finished products to be analyzed.
  • Operate several types of laboratory equipment such as, but not limited to, pH meter, autoclave, microscope, colony counter, etc.
  • Perform tasks according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Interact with lab personnel and the quality assurance department for material issues.
  • Maintain neat, accurate, and complete records in laboratory notebooks and on log sheets and other forms of documentation such that they are defendable through an audit.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail in documentation and observations of materials.
  •  Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Perform other lab-related duties or tests as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Follow OSHA, HACCP, TTB guidelines and recording requirements.
Required Education/Background Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field—, microbiology, biochemistry, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Basic understanding of microbiology. and the impact that people and the environment can have on finished product results.
  • Ability Familiar with to operate laboratory equipment proficiently (e.g., pH meter, balances, microscope, and spectrophotometer.)
  • Proficient in laboratory documentation, and experience conducting/interpreting lab tests.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Experience with administrative duties such as filing, checking and entering required information into the computer system data entry, and record keeping.
  • Experience in keeping records, files and finished goods.
  • Experience in effectively multi-tasking, organizing and prioritizing tasks.
  • Knowledge of 5S or similar system.
Preferred Education/Background Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in manufacturing environment A PLUS!
  • Experienced in cross training for other laboratory areas, such as the product analytical lab.
  • Experience working in a cGMP regulated environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of 5S or similar organization system.
  • Experience working in a cGMP regulated environment preferred.
Expected Hours of Work: The plant is a 24/7/365 operation and shift, weekend and holiday work will be required. Full-time position. Must be willing to work a 12-hour shift, must be willing to work day shift or night shift including weekends and holidays. Overtime is required. (2-2-3 schedule: 2 days/nights on 2 days/nights off 3 days/nights on 2 days/nights off 2 days/night on 3 days/nights off and repeat).

Percent of Travel Required:  0-10%
