Description: The Project Accountant under general direction of the Director of Plant Accounting and overall direction from Project Team, will be accountable for monitoring / reporting the financial progress of projects, tracking / verifying all project cost, investigating project variances to budget and managing Fixed Assets as well as assisting with inventory accounting, monthly manufacturing close, analysis of variances and the standard setting process. The position has three main roles:
  • Gatekeeper - reporting into the business the true and fair view of how projects are tracking financially; and
  • Advisor - advising the project team as to the financial treatment and implications of the various decisions being made, their impact on both the project and the business.
  • Managing the Fixed Asset system across all legal entries.
Fundamental Components:

  • Physical presence at the worksite during all assigned work shifts.  
  • Proactively manage the financial controls of projects.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure all project cost components are coded correctly to general ledger.
  • Capitalizing projects in a timely manner.
  • Fixed Asset management including reconciliation to the GL.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly cost reviews with project team.
  • Oversee project revenues and expenditures to verify that projects are completed on time and within budgetary guidelines.
  • May include preparing and presenting financial statements, creating annual project budgets and forecasts.
  • Perform project monitoring and data collection to determine if a project is progressing according to budget.
  • May also be authorized to make or approve project expenditures.
  • Perform financial research, manage a project's general ledger, and/or monitor a project's cash flow.
  • Review and process change orders to Purchase Orders.
  • Develop ad hoc reporting and analysis to support the project team with decision making.
  • May assist the implementation and maintenance of inventory and cost accounting systems and procedures.
  • May assist management of Bill of Materials and process inventory related transactions within an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system in addition to processing all revenue related transactions.
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process and development of forecasts and management of fixed assets. 
  • Contributor in the development of standard costs and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the Company's standard cost and inventory valuation systems and procedures. 
  • Communicate effectively with senior leaders and collaborate with staff at all organizational levels across various business units.
  • Supporting Accounting and Finance team.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Must be able to work in a high demand non-climate control manufacturing setting.

Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Normal hours and days are 8 AM – 5 PM on Monday – Friday with occasional weekends or nights if required.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in accounting or another business-related field is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • 3 - 8 years of experience in a construction or manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of project management or experience in cost accounting with responsibility for setting standard costs and analyzing variances.
  • Fermentation or biotech experience preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of US GAAP, accounting principles, practices, standards, and regulations. 
  • Working with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics AX D365.
  • Advanced abilities in Microsoft Office products for data analysis – Access, Excel and/or Power Bi.
Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States.
